Nick Callison

Vice president of development, Forvis

Age: 39

Wife: Megan Callison

Accomplishments that make you deserving of being a Forty Under 40:

  • I am the vice president of development at Forvis, which is the eighth-largest accounting firm in the U.S. Under my leadership, the Des Moines office has cultivated a culture of growth, resulting in unprecedented levels of success.

  • I am presently a member of three boards, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for families and the Des Moines community.

  • I play a pivotal role as a community connector, forging meaningful connections and fostering collaboration among various groups within the community.

What's your biggest passion, and why?

Children. We need to continually support children, particularly during challenging times, empowering them to pursue their passions freely. I am committed to ensuring children have the resources they need to follow their dreams and overcome obstacles they face.

What are your goals in your role at work?

My goals at work include spearheading strategic growth initiatives to further advance the continued expansion of Forvis. Additionally, I aim to nurture a culture of success within the organization and continue mentoring my colleagues to help them reach their goals and potential.

What are your goals in a role outside of work?

I'm committed to furthering the vibrancy of #dsmusa as a community. This involves ongoing collaboration with local nonprofits dedicated to aiding families and children during challenging times, ensuring our community remains supportive and resilient.

Tell us about an experience or memory that influenced how you see the world or what you want to do in life.

I recall being told during an interview that “they like people that finished college because it means they can finish something.” I've used that statement as motivation to debunk such perceptions and fuel my success. My aim is to not only prove that mindset wrong but also to inspire others who may have faced similar remarks.

What are your aspirations for the future?

My future aspirations include sustaining Forvis’ impactful work and solidifying our role as a community pillar. I'm dedicated to ensuring our continued positive influence and lasting contributions to the community. And if I play my cards right, Sages Over 70.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?

Seek out a mentor; leverage the accessibility and compassion of the corporate leaders in our community. And get involved. Consider volunteering for a local nonprofit aligned with your passions.

What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?

My challenge to future community leaders is to continue advocating for improved public schools and sustained investment in local nonprofits. Strengthening communities directly affects company success, as they depend on skilled workforces and supportive environments for growth.

What's one fun fact about you?

My team was the “inaugural champion” of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Conference golf outing. We have a trophy to prove it.

Hobbies: Traveling, golf, attending kids’ events.

One word that describes you: Resilient.

What is your favorite local restaurant? Simon's.

Name one book, podcast, movie or show you love. “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” or “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.” It's a tossup.

What is your go-to activity to do in Central Iowa in the evenings or during the weekend?

Enjoying our favorite local restaurants and attending the current gala.
