Age: 39

Accomplishments that make you deserving of being a Forty Under 40:

  • I serve as the president for the Greater Iowa Apartment Association and have been on the board and involved in committees for the last eight years.

  • I fulfill the role of chair for the marketing and communication committee at the National Apartment Association; additionally, I serve on the board as chair of events and programming at CREW Iowa (Commercial Real Estate Women of Iowa).

  • In Des Moines, I'm involved in various community nonprofits, including chairing my company's national United Way campaign, Central Iowa Shelter & Services committee for Heroes for Homeless, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and many others!

  • Under the age of 30, I was promoted to regional vice president at my current company, BH Management, the eighth-largest multifamily owner/operator in the U.S. with operations in over 20 states and a portfolio of 107,000-plus units. My current portfolio includes 55 properties and just under 16,000 units.

What's your biggest passion, and why?

I'm passionate about leveling the playing field and providing opportunities for all. Empowering women resonates deeply with my core values. Elevating those around you not only brings personal fulfillment but also contributes to the strength and resilience of our community.

What are your goals in your role at work?

As a leader within BH's Midwest region, I actively seek opportunities to empower my team members by enhancing their skills and encouraging their leadership styles. My goal is to inspire all team members to be for positive change inside and outside the workplace.

What are your goals in a role outside of work?

My goal is to contribute to the improvement of our community, leaving it in a better condition than before.

Tell us about an experience or memory that influenced how you see the world or what you want to do in life.

I was influenced by the absence of involvement from my parents in my upbringing; as I got older, witnessing the unconditional love and support from those around me served as a powerful influence, motivating me to strive to be a positive figure that shows up especially for my husband and son, as well as family and friends.

What are your aspirations for the future?

My aspiration for the future is to continue to learn and grow in both my professional and personal life. I strive to utilize the gifts I've been blessed with to serve others.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?

Say yes to all the things. Try something new, sign up for that volunteer opportunity your supervisor asked about, “yes” to the coffee run, “yes” to the new project or committee. You never know what opportunity will come out of it.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” –Wayne Gretzky.

What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?

An emphasized focus on education and workforce development. Investing in quality education from early childhood to higher education levels, as well as providing opportunities for vocational/skill training and development. I believe this is essential for preparing the community members to thrive in the evolving job market. By prioritizing education and workforce development, Central Iowa can empower its community members to pursue fulfilling careers, attract and retain talent, and build a competitive and resilient economy for the future.

What's one fun fact about you?

I'm originally from Seattle, and when I moved to Iowa with my boyfriend at the time (now husband) I wasn't planning to stay longer than six months here. Sixteen years later, I'm still in Des Moines and I love it, with no intentions of leaving anytime soon.

Hobbies: I enjoy attending sporting events or my son's games, practicing yoga and hitting up a local trail to bike.

One word that describes you: Inspiring.

What is your favorite local restaurant? Fresko.

Name one book, podcast, movie or show you love. “New Heights” podcast from Jason and Travis Kelce.

What is your go-to activity to do in Central Iowa in the evenings or during the weekend?

My absolute favorite is the Iowa State Fair! I love hitting all the Central Iowa trails for walking or biking. It's always fun to check out new restaurants, bars and breweries in the area with my husband and/or friends.
