What's your biggest passion, and why?

My greatest passion is fostering the growth and empowerment of the Black community. My inspiration stems from my grandfather, the Rev. Wilson O. Rideout. As a pastor of one of the largest churches in Waterloo, he used his platform to host community conversations and advocacy initiatives, leaving a lasting impact.

What are your goals in your role at work?

My objective at the Directors Council is to enhance racial equity dialogues, programs and support in Des Moines. As the 2024 edition of the One Economy report is set to release, I'm eager to contribute to the next phase of systemic change and progress in Des Moines.

What are your goals in a role outside of work?

I anticipate achieving my goal of expanding the LadyLike PowHer Summit, aimed at providing a platform for Black women to foster connectivity, access resources and develop leadership skills. Having successfully hosted over 300 women annually, I aspire to transform the summit into a more robust regional network.

Tell us about an experience or memory that influenced how you see the world or what you want to do in life.

In my youth, being among the few minority students in diverse learning environments underscored the importance of courageous conversations and transparency in our experiences. These instances of personal growth fueled my dedication to speaking out against inequalities and advocating for positive changes.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I aim to contribute to building a stronger community for Black Polk County residents, ultimately enhancing the economic impact for all of Des Moines. I aspire to play a pivotal role in translating the vision for Des Moines into a reality that benefits every resident.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?

Networking is integral to any job and holds significance in every role. The capacity to connect people or possess potential resources is consistently valuable, offering a competitive edge. By expanding your networking skills, staying abreast of industry trends and fostering career development, you can enhance your professional standing.

What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?

I aspire to see increased engagement from our business leaders in shaping policy changes, influencing not only their industries but also the wider community. The substantial influence of these major stakeholders, extending their support to various areas, has the potential to enhance the lives of the employees who serve them.
