Bridgette Uhlemann

Senior vice president and general counsel, LCS

Age: 37

Husband: Joe Uhlemann

Children: Cora, Margot

Accomplishments that make you deserving of being a Forty Under 40:

  • I serve as senior vice president and general counsel for LCS, the third-largest operator of senior living in the nation, which manages over 130 senior living communities and serves more than 35,000 seniors.

  • In 2019, I spearheaded the inaugural Purple Soirée, an evening gala that raises awareness and support for those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

  • I was elected as the board chair of the Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter in 2021.

  • I serve as the secretary and treasurer for the Mid-Iowa Association of Local Governments, a group of local mayors who gather once a month to discuss local issues within the Des Moines metro.

What's your biggest passion, and why?

I am passionate about building relationships. I believe most problems can be solved by understanding what motivates people, communicating better and working together.

What are your goals in your role at work?

I want to continue being a trusted resource and partner for LCS. I have an open-door policy because I want to understand what the LCS team needs. We can then collaborate and figure out a path forward that ensures legal risks are thoughtfully considered and mitigated.

What are your goals in a role outside of work?

I want to raise thoughtful and confident kids.

Tell us about an experience or memory that influenced how you see the world or what you want to do in life.

When I was a kid, my dad owned several real estate properties. I spent almost every school break with my dad flipping apartments, helping with routine maintenance, shoveling snow, mowing grass – you name it! I learned so many skills from my dad, but the most important lesson I learned was that if I am going to do something, I need to do it right.

He passed away in January this year. He was the most incredible person who was so kind, smart and patient. I want to do the right thing and lead with my heart, which he always did.

What are your aspirations for the future?

Alzheimer's disease is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States. We need to provide better care, support and treatment options for patients, caregivers and families who are impacted by Alzheimer's disease.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a young professional?

Create your own personal definition of success. Align your career, relationships and hobbies with your mission, purpose and strengths.

What is one thing you would like to see Central Iowa leaders address, and why?

We need to continue expanding mental health resources in our communities.

What's one fun fact about you?

I played violin as a kid and started practicing again now that my daughter is taking lessons.

Hobbies: I love biking, trying new recipes and spending time with my family.

One word that describes you: Hopeful.

What is your favorite local restaurant? Lucky Lotus.

Name one book, podcast, movie or show you love. “Parks and Recreation” is my favorite; I watch the entire show (start to finish) every year!

What is your go-to activity to do in Central Iowa in the evenings or during the weekend?

My family and I like to bike on the weekends to local parks, then go to one of our favorite lunch spots.
